Ah, Just Dump It Off At The Shelter

by Nancy
(Gardner)

I work for the Board of Health for Animal Control. There are times this job can be very rewarding in caring for animals and finding homes for them, but other times I become infuriated with the lack of regard people have and the lies they tell when they no longer want their animals.

I've lost track about the number of people who say they "found" this animal and bring it to the shelter. There have also been instances of cats found in boxes outside. One day there were two kittens left in the donation box outside used for donating food or towels. One instance that really sticks in my mind is the box found outside with a very pregnant cat. The next morning I came in and she had four kittens, one dead.

Other times people think this facility is a petting zoo. They have no intention of adopting an animal. They only want to look out of curiosity.

Fortunately there are times people are truly interested or are simply willing to give what they can to support our efforts in providing care.

People, smarten up. Cute little animals grow up and reproduce. Fix your animals!

At least we can provide shelter and do our best.
