Best Friend Turned Horrible Roommate

I recently moved in to New Jersey for work purposes. I moved in with a very good friend. He was a friend I had for eight years; we have been through a lot of ups and down especially when we had to take our board exams in our home country and in the United States. We processed our papers together. We went to different agencies together. We talked on the phone, texted, dined and spent a lot of time together. I thought I knew him well enough, but I was wrong. We live in the same apartment unit and I found out a lot about him.
First, he was a complainer. It used to be funny when he complains but when I got stuck with him all day all week. It is not funny anymore, he complains almost everything like the inability of his laundry to get dried in the dryer because he placed too much clothes in it, the need to cook when he kept on ate a lot, the cold weather when he does not wear jacket, and worst of all he complains about the sharing of the chores. I expect him to clean up after his mess and take turns cleaning the house .But you see, he has no plans of cleaning up and he told me why he would clean the place if he is fine with a dirty one. Second, he pesters me to give him gifts. For instance, this Christmas he gave me a bargained bag and insisted I buy him an expensive gadget. I was quite forced to buy him the gadget and later on I found out that all he gave me was a bargained bag. I am not complaining that it is a cheap bag but at the very least, he should not have insisted on me giving him an expensive gift after he had already bought my cheap gift, and Lastly, he could not stand being alone. He always wants companionship from me, even just to go get something in the refrigerator right across our office desk. I barely spend time alone in my room as he keeps on knocking. To sum it all up, lazy, opportunistic, and dependent people drive me crazy and I got all three qualities in my friend turned roommate
