How to Reduce Stress - 7 Tips
If you are wondering how to reduce stress, you are not alone. Many of us are more stressed than we should be, and when it comes to stress, you are looking at something that can get into every corner of your life. As stress builds up, the effects of stress can range from short-temper and fatigue to health effects of stress that are considerably more dangerous, like ulcers and heart conditions! When you are looking for ways how to reduce stress, consider the following 7 tips: 1. Identify What Stresses You When it comes to ways how to reduce stress, the first thing that you need to look at is what it is that is stressing you out. When do you get stress reactions? What makes them go away? What makes them worse? Figuring out what specific things are stressing you out can help you plan your next move. 2. Because you can't run or throw a punch in stressful situations (like our ancestors did), the stress will remain unexpressed, stress hormones circulating in your blood stream. Exercise can help. It doesn't matter what the exercise is as long as you get your heart rate up. You may love the idea of yoga, or perhaps you prefer weight lifting. Some people like to take classes, while others prefer solitary runs. No matter what it is, get out there and break a sweat! 3. Time Management We live in a fast paced world, no doubt about it. One of the things that we often find stressful is not being able to be where we need to be and on time. If you are late constantly, remember that timeliness is just a habit. Realistically budget your time and make sure that you always leave early. Just dealing with this issue can help out a great deal. 4. Avoid Stimulants Stimulants are meant to key you up and give you a surge of artificial energy. This surge of energy doesn’t last long and has a long term negative effect on your adrenal glands. Stay away from processed sugar, tobacco, and caffeine, especially. 5. Breathing Exercises One thing that makes stress worse is shallow breathing. When you are feeling stressed out, take the time to breath deeply and evenly. You will find that you are regaining some measure of control just by controlling your breath. Learn some breathing techniques and take control of your stress levels. 6. De-clutter – 3 for 1 stress reliever One of the ways how to reduce stress is to do something proactive. My favorite is: cleaning the clutter around my house. This is a 3 for 1 stress reliever, because:
7. Have Some Fun! No matter who you are, or what you like, there are probably activities that relax you and that you enjoy. Take some time to figure out what hobbies or activities bring you a feeling of peace and relaxation. Having fun is not “wasting time”; it is simply an investment in your own well-being.
