The urge to fit in

The thing that drives me crazy is how people behave in social gatherings. Absolutely phony and fake from their real selves.
Your normal friends, who you chat with, and spend time with, suddenly become these peer pressured specimens who disgust me with their artificiality.
The worst part is that is it so momentary that you cant even question them about it later, because they wont remember it or if they do, they wont admit to it.
It’s funny how the most kindest and best people can fall into hypocrisy when the subject of ‘getting ahead’ comes their way. I’m not saying they hurt people to get ahead.
No, I basically believe that human kind is good, but with a sheet of artificiality which no one can escape. A party is a good place to observe these qualities in people.
They may be good people at heart but it doesn’t take them a second to behave unnaturally or become somebody else in order to be what they want to be, for their own benefit or for the sake of their work, or sometimes, just to show off.
It comes with small doses and spreads everywhere. Especially in my peer group, it is sacredly followed, as if being fake and dishonest to yourself will get you the trophy of being with the ‘in’ crowd as well as fitting in and belonging.
The urge to fit in disgusts me and frustrates me. This is hugely frustrating cause you cant cure it, nor can you ignore it!
