Tutoring for stress relief
by Elena
I relieve stress every day after work by tutoring young children and teenagers.
During the day, I work as an IT Manager. The corporate environment is very stressful and I am tired at the end of the day.
When I leave my corporate job I begin in-home tutoring. I tutor for an average of three to four hours each evening.
I go to each student’s homes and tutor them in a variety of subjects including, Algebra, Geometry, English, Science and Spanish. Some of my students have learning disabilities. Others are average to good students.
Working with children of all ages is my joy and passion. I love helping the children understand their schoolwork. Seeing the children do well in school is the ultimate reward.
My student’s self-esteem and self-worth is raised by their better grades. My students tell me that they feel smart when they do well in school.
My husband tells me that I always come home from tutoring with a smile on my face. No matter how tired I am, I am always happy when I am working as a tutor.
During my corporate job, people don’t matter. Employees may come and go. Computers can be swapped out.
Working with children is completely different. I have to succeed with them. They cannot be swapped out like a computer. W
hen I tutor, I am making a difference in a child’s life. In the past few years, I successfully tutored a child so that he would not be held back in first grade, I prepared high school students for their SAT test, I taught a child actress how to read her lines in Spanish, I helped a learning disabled fourteen year old succeed in Algebra so that she could attend a performing arts school.
These accomplishments with children bring my joy and relieve the stress of my corporate career.
